Description

Animal group: Dinosauria
Age: 130 million years ago.
Period: Cretaceous.
Range: Asia.
Length: 9 meters
Diet: Carnivore.
Number in park: A pair.
Danger level: Very dangerous, do not approach.

This large carnivore is the first animal cloned that had an enclosure constructed in the highlands of the park. The young animals were covered in down when they hatched and were quite adorable with big eyes and uttering soft sounds. But they quickly showed signs of heat stress in the subtropical climate in the park so they had to be moved into the highlands once they grew so big that the keepers couldn't safely handle them. The yutyrannus is extremely cold hardy, and despite having access to a sheltered indoor area the pair remains outdoors all year round, despite the freezing temperatures or snowfall.
As winter arrived the staff noticed something incredible, the yutyrannus shed its thinner, brown summer coat and developed a thick, white winter plumage. This adaptation allows the yutyrannus to blend into the environment as the cold months cloak the landscape in snow, and it works very efficiently. Once spring arrives the animal changes back into the brown coat that allows for better camoflauge during the summer.
Once the animals reached maturity they also developed several red stripes on their face and throats, which in a way resembled the breeding plumage of many birds and probably fills the same function in yutyrannus. The two animals have become a mated pair and have a very strong bond, often showing signs of affection such as rubbing noses and sleeping close together. They roar in duets at morning and dusk to remind all the animals at the park that this area is their territory.

TRIVIA
This tyrannosaur has a habit of lying still in one spot during blizzards, becoming covered with snow. A keeper that didn't spot the animals believed they were locked indoors and was nearly killed as the tyrannosaur charged from its hiding place beneath the snow. This has earned it the nickname "snow stalker".
